About this service
What Is Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) Testing?
- Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) Testing evaluates how well the automatic (involuntary) nervous system controls important body functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, and circulation.
- The autonomic nervous system regulates how your body responds to stress, position changes, and daily activities. When it is not functioning properly, patients may experience symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, rapid or irregular heartbeats, fatigue, shortness of breath, or unexplained blood pressure fluctuations.
- ANS testing measures heart rate variability, blood pressure responses, and other physiological changes under controlled conditions. It can help diagnose conditions such as autonomic dysfunction, syncope (fainting), orthostatic hypotension, and certain rhythm or blood pressure disorders.
What to expect
The test is non-invasive and usually takes about 20 minutes. You will be comfortably monitored while different measurements are recorded. There are no needles, and the procedure is painless.
