About this service
What Is an Chest X-ray (CXR)?
- A chest X-ray (CXR) is a fast, painless imaging test that creates a picture of the heart, lungs, and chest structures.
- It helps your medical team look for changes in heart size and shape, fluid buildup, and lung conditions that may affect breathing or place extra strain on the heart.
- A CXR can be useful when evaluating symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, persistent cough, or swelling.
- It may also support the evaluation of conditions such as heart failure, fluid in the lungs (pulmonary congestion or pleural effusion), pneumonia, and other cardiopulmonary concerns.
What to expect
Our equipment is digital. The test usually takes only a few minutes. You will stand briefly while images are taken. The amount of radiation is extremely low, and the images are reviewed by our medical team as part of your overall cardiovascular assessment.
